Moot Court Competition, Fall 2007

UND School of Law Alumni

UND School of Law is the only law school in the state and has a valued tradition of educating many of the state’s leaders.  Our alumni include North Dakota’s single member of the U.S. House of Representatives; numerous North Dakota Supreme Court justices; federal appellate and district court judges, including the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. Armed Forces; the state’s Attorney General; a former University of North Dakota President; the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General; State Board of Higher Education members; and nearly three-quarters of the attorneys licensed to practice in North Dakota.

Outside of the state, our alumni practice law around the country in a variety of settings, from the managing partner of the New York office of DLA Piper, one of the world’s largest law firms, to a 2009 graduate who is a solo practitioner in Oregon.  Our alumni include state court and administrative law judges; prosecutors and public defenders; attorneys with federal and state agencies; policy analysts and lobbyists; attorneys and officers in the Department of Defense and the military; non-profit and legal services attorneys; and corporate counsel.

Our graduates also are successful in a variety of professions across the nation, including banking and finance, insurance, power cooperatives, aviation, oil and gas, law enforcement, mortgage and title companies, real estate development, tax and accounting, and academia.  Not coincidentally, many of our graduates have made a mark on the business of professional hockey: the Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Phoenix Coyotes National Hockey League franchise, the Governor of the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose and Chair of the True North Sports and Entertainment Centre Project, and the General Manager for the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League all graduated from the School of Law.

Our alumni are influential in tribal government as well, and include the former treasurer for the National Indian Gaming Association, along with tribal prosecutors, tribal judges, attorneys with inter-tribal organizations, and tribal business leaders.  Recent School of Law graduates include a policy analyst with the National Indian Health Board, an attorney with the Association of Village Council Presidents Tribal Justice Center in Alaska, a faculty member in a tribal college paralegal program, and a tribal appellate judge.

The School of Law has a mentoring program that partners students with practicing attorneys.  Our alumni regularly assist students in networking and employment opportunities.  Alumni frequently participate in student activities, including moot court and trial competitions, student organization events, and other events at the School of Law.
