William P. Johnson

Prof. William P. Johnson was invited to join a delegation of lawyers, law professors and leaders of the American Bar Association (ABA) on an International Legal Exchange (ILEX) briefing trip to São Paulo, Brazil and Lima, Peru that took place April 26 through May 1, 2009.  The briefing trip was organized by the ABA Section of International Law

The primary goal of the briefing trip was to establish a framework for ongoing mutual contacts, cooperation and friendship between the ABA Section of International Law and the members of the delegation and the respective legal communities of Brazil and Peru.  The delegation also sought to enable the exchange of ideas and information regarding issues of mutual interest and concern relating to international business, human rights and the rule of law.  To those ends, the members of the delegation met with, among others, judges of the Supreme Court of São Paulo, justices of the Supreme Court of Peru, government officials of Peru, deans of several law schools in São Paulo and Lima, high-level U.S. diplomats, business association leaders, representatives of local law firms, and leaders of São Paulo and Lima bar organizations.

As part of the briefing trip, Prof. Johnson also served as a panelist for a presentation to the Centro de Estudos das Sociedades de Advogados (CESA), a prominent association of Brazilian law firms.  The presentation was entitled “Business and Finance in Today’s Economy and the Effects on and Reactions of Law Firms.”
