VITA Program Sessions Announced

UND Law Students to Conduct Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
Program provides free tax preparation for qualified individuals

GRAND FORKS, ND (January 22, 2009)  University of North Dakota law students will be preparing and electronically filing income tax returns, free of charge, for individuals who qualify through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program

VITA is a free service that provides free e-file for participants filing federal and state tax returns.  Preparers are certified by the IRS to complete tax returns for individuals and families who made less than $42,000 in 2008. The School of Law’s Public Interest Law Student Association (PILSA) is sponsoring the effort that will run through April 7, 2009. 

Law students will prepare tax returns on Tuesdays, Thursdays and select Saturdays.  The session schedule and locations are listed below. 

Grand Forks Sessions

January 27 to March 12 & March 24 to April 7
Each Tuesday & Thursday, 5:30 – 7:30 PM,
At the University Apartment Community Center, 525 Stanford Rd.

February 7, 21, 28, March 7, 28, and April 4
Saturday, 11 – 4 PM
At the Grand Forks Public Library, 2110 Library Cir.

Individuals interested in participating must bring:

* Social Security Card 

* Proof of Identity 

* Estimated Tax Payments made

* 2007 tax return if available    

* All W-2, 1098, 1099 Forms

* banking information for direct deposit of refunds

* Amounts of other income

* For married couples filing jointly, both people must be present
