Hon. Rodney Webb, UND Law Class of 1959, dies at 74 after battle with cancer

Rodney Webb

The entire University of North Dakota School of Law community is saddened by the passing of U.S. District Court Judge Rodney Webb.  We are very proud to say Judge Webb was a 1959 graduate of our school.  He was a highly respected and dedicated jurist who served the legal community, our state, and our nation for 50 years, and contributed in many ways and for many years to the success of our law school.

Judge Webb’s support of our students included routinely holding court sessions at the School of Law.  He was an advocate of our summer federal externship program and hired many of our alumni as clerks in his chambers.  We were honored to have Judge Webb serve as our Inaugural Distinguished Jurist-in-Residence in February 2007.  During that time, he gave generously of his time and expertise, spending several days on campus educating and advising our students.  Judge Webb also knew the importance of maintaining a high-caliber faculty.  He and his wife Betty established the Rodney and Betty Webb professorship and created a faculty achievement award to celebrate individual faculty accomplishments in teaching, scholarship, and service.  We extend our deepest sympathy to Judge Webb’s family and his many friends.  We will miss him greatly.

On behalf of the students, staff, and faculty of the UND School of Law,
