Symposium Issue2009 - North Dakota Publicly Traded Corporations Act Symposium
The NDPTCA challenges many assumptions previously held by corporation laws regarding the management of public corporations. The goal of the NDPTCA was to create shareholder friendly corporations through requirements such as: limiting director term limits, restricting poison pills, separating the role of chairman and chief executive officer, permitting votes on compensation reports, and altering plurality voting to majority voting when electing directors. The NDPTCA is an incredibly novel approach to governing publicly traded corporations and preventing crimes against the public. The NDLR desires to provide its readers with an examination of the NDPTCA’s origin, its goals and its national impact. The study also hopes to foster a comparison of NDPTCA with prominent corporation schemes available in other states such as Delaware, or other nations. While the focus of the Symposium shall be primarily on the NDPTCA, the NDLR encourages authors to submit other articles concerning shareholder rights as well. Any interested authors should immediately contact the NDLR symposium editor, Patrick Dixon, by calling 701-777-2941 or emailing him at patrick.dixon@students.law.und.nodak.edu. We anticipate accepting all article submissions no later than December 1, 2008. The exact date of the symposium live event has not yet been established, but is projected to be held in April 2009.
2008 - Future of the Family SymposiumThe NORTH DAKOTA LAW REVIEW's ("NDLR") 2008 symposium will center on the legal future of the family. In light of many recent federal and state constitutional amendments regarding marriage, the NDLR is concerned about the legal definitions of family and marriage, as well as other implicated issues such as abortion, adoption, and tax. The NDLR desires to provide its readers with arguments for either following the traditional definitions of family and marriage in projecting the future of these institutions, or in proposing a change to those definitions. We specifically plan to analyze these topics through the lenses of two methodologies, namely constitutional law and family law. We encourage legal scholars and practitioners to frame their perspectives through the lens of one of the two methodologies, or even to analyze the interplay of their legal positions through both methodologies. Any interested authors should immediately contact our symposium editor, Patrick Dixon, by calling 701-777-2941, or by emailing him at patrick.dixon@students.law.und.nodak.edu. We anticipate accepting all article submissions no later than December 31, 2007. Chief Justice VandeWalle SymposiumThe North Dakota Law Review ("NDLR") is pleased to announce a symposium celebrating Chief Justice VandeWalle's 30th year on the bench. The symposium issue is scheduled to be published in August 2008, in conjunction with Chief Justice VandeWalle's 75th birthday.
